Course Objectives

1. B.Sc. Nursing – Mental Health Nursing

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the concepts, principles, and scope of mental health nursing. 

  2. Describe the factors influencing mental health and mental illness. 

  3. Identify signs and symptoms of common psychiatric disorders. 

  4. Conduct mental health assessment including mental status examination. 

  5. Apply the psychiatric nursing process in the care of individuals with mental health problems. 

  6. Demonstrate effective therapeutic communication with patients and their families. 

  7. Participate in various treatment modalities including psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. 

  8. Provide nursing care for patients with emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric disorders. 

  9. Assist in the management of psychiatric emergencies and crisis situations. 

  10. Participate in community mental health services and mental health promotion programs. 

  11. Apply legal and ethical principles in mental health nursing practice. 

2. Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing – Mental Health Nursing

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge of mental health concepts and principles in nursing practice. 

  2. Assess psychological responses of patients to illness, hospitalization, and stress. 

  3. Demonstrate advanced therapeutic communication and counseling skills. 

  4. Identify and manage common psychiatric disorders in different age groups. 

  5. Provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals with mental health problems. 

  6. Assist in various psychiatric treatment modalities including psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. 

  7. Recognize and manage psychiatric emergencies and crisis situations. 

  8. Participate in mental health education and awareness programs. 

  9. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in providing psychiatric care. 

  10. Promote rehabilitation and follow-up care for individuals with mental illness in hospital and community settings. 

3. M.Sc. Nursing – Mental Health Nursing

At the end of the program, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and competencies in mental health nursing practice. 

  2. Perform comprehensive mental health assessment and diagnostic formulation. 

  3. Apply advanced psychiatric nursing interventions for individuals, families, and groups. 

  4. Provide psychotherapy, counseling, and crisis intervention. 

  5. Manage complex psychiatric conditions using evidence-based practices. 

  6. Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of mental health services. 

  7. Conduct and utilize research in mental health nursing practice. 

  8. Teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students. 

  9. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for holistic mental health care. 

  10. Participate in mental health policy development and community mental health programs.
